South Korean experts from KIND review the studies and tour the Phase 1 route
From 28 August to 2 September, a delegation from KIND, South Korea's public infrastructure and urban-development corporation , held technical sessions with the Railway Secretariat, visited points along the planned route, and met Panama Canal Authority engineers. The visit covered study review and technology transfer; no financing, investment, or tender was announced.
Background & context
Korea has appeared in this archive before: the earliest item, from September 2024, was an invitation to Korean firms, and the May 2025 route announcement cited Korea's rail system as a reference for linking high-speed lines with industrial zones. A working visit by a public infrastructure agency is a step beyond both, but it is still a review, not a commitment.
The meeting with Canal Authority engineers is the detail worth noting. The crossing near the Centenario Bridge is the project's most complex structure, and any credible design needs the ACP at the table.
The same week, former president Ernesto Pérez Balladares publicly questioned the project's financial viability and its passenger and freight demand. Those are fair questions. The independent validation President Mulino promised in July is where they should be answered, with published numbers.
